I recently changed my eee from the default Xandros to Fedora 12. I
just downloaded the ISO image for a live CD to a USB stick, and booted
from the USB stick (you might need to go into the BIOS and alter the
boot order). Once I was happy that al the hardware was recognized I
just used the utility to install to hard disk.
Follow the tips on the eee forum to mount with noatime.
I'm sure there is a similar utility in ubuntu.
