Which reasons are there to use shared home directories?

Desktop users (which are the ones expected to be using firefox) should
have his own home directory each associated to their respective uid.
Basic system accountability IMHO, but I am open to hear arguments in
the contrary. In the few occasions in which a predecessor of mine had
set up shared directories, the set-up was a source of constant
resentment, recriminations and lack of accountability, even if the
number of sharers were no more than 2.

I don't think shared homes are desirable, and perhaps the Firefox
developers approached design from that point of view.
