The world is POSIX now. BSD-versus-SysV really predates it, and the GNU
userspace has more features than either could have dreamed of. PTYs are
SysVish: the network interface is BSDish (ew, but SysV Streams were
worse: POSIX included both until it was plain that everyone was ignoring
the streams part of it); the boot scripts are (or were until recently)
SysVish; the lack of corporate jackboots is BSDish. :)
POSIX did a reasonable job of taking the best from both, I think. (These
days it spends a lot of its time taking the best from Linux :) )
