[Gllug] Intermittent Network Loss on Centos Web Server

My limited experience with ethernet bits and pieces (mainly the fast ethernet
type rather than gibabit) is that the ones that usually play up are the onboard
ones where presumably the mobo manufacturer has gone for the cheapest component
available. I have a PC 'on' my desk with an onboard NIC that persistently drops
local telnet connections to the server, whereas the add-on netgear NIC works
perfectly. The solution to dodgy ethernet connection invariably is to replace
the NIC with another one, avoiding the dead-cheapo ones.
I note, incidentally, that netgear have a habit of producing the 'same' NIC
by part-number with different chips and accordingly requiring a different driver
