Having multiple machine names in the Maildir filenames shouldn't pose a
problem for Dovecot - I've migrated mail from one Dovecot server to another
without problem.
An alternative solution is to run an IMAP server on your laptop and
synchronise that with your main IMAP server using imapsync[1].
