Not sure that statement applies to desktops - I guess it depends on
whether you buy it for the home or business.

HP servers are definitely very good, but not entirely convinced their
servicing lives up to that of Dell (but having said that - they do
support the hardware in other countries very well which was useful
when our hardware was sitting over in Munich, New York or Los Angeles
and needed a disk replacement; just a pity that support extends so
much in the UK - turnaround time wasn't great).  I've used HP servers,
disk arrays and desktops extensively for building a now defunct VFX
playback/preview system (running under CentOS - everything just worked
out of the box) and was always reliable and utilised good quality
components.
