You are entitled to your opinion. I prefer to listen to people that actually
think it is doable and are already building the prototypes:

And of course it would be in in a limited controlled environment: properly
suited cars and roads.
The above is not the only way to achieve this, eventually people will come
with something doable and economical.

What is driving? One of the most repetitive tasks people do. What do
computers do very well? Repetitive tasks.
In any case CPU power is on our side. Now we have machines with CPUs with 2,
4 or 8 cores that are affordable to individuals.
The mythical Beowulf cluster of those will become personal.
