Wow!

I'm stunned that anyone would be willing to say anything even vaguely
positive about NSI, let alone be using them since there's been a choice.

I ran screaming from NSI as soon as an alternative (gandi) set up with
T&Cs that explicitly stated that the domain was property of the
registrant, unlike NSI.

Perhaps you were not bitten by NSI's implementation of PGP authentication
of instructions in email. This is a laudable idea on the face of it,
and I was fully in support of it, but that was before it became apparent
that they'd pre-empted me by setting the PGP-only bit on my account
without consulting me, and also without enabling my (widely published)
PGP key.

They then proceeded to reject everything I sent them, and provided no
recovery route.

I remember getting a mail from them at one point that had taken several
(I think 5) months to go from their web server to _their_ mail server,
before whizzing over the pond to me a few second later.

In order to wrest control of the domain from them, I was reduced to
listening to their sodding call queue music for about 45 minutes, on an
expensive (that tells you how long ago this was) international phone
call, and when I got through to a human, he tried to put me on hold
again without listening to what I wanted.

Oh, and NSI were also the tossers that thought that it's a good idea to
redirect typos to their "Why don't you buy this domain?":

  http://www.pfir.org/statements/vs-domain-abuse

They are scum.

Oh, and their web site is _really_ annoying -- I was just wondering what
they charge for a .COM and after going through a twisty turney menu
system where they try to sell you things that most other people give for
free, it looks like about £35 for a year, dropping to $17p.a. for 10
years, so confusing and expensive.

When I left, the only reason to keep _any_ domains with them that I could
think of was to keep my NIC handle (PGH) -- I've not missed it, and I
note that while I was not paying attention they turned that off anyway:

=-=-=-=-

Gandi.net on the other hand are nice, and reasonably priced, and
ethical, and fans of Debian and Free Software:

  .co.uk for 6 quid every 2 years

DNS thrown in: https://www.gandi.net/domain/zones

Oh, they're not UK, being based in France, but I've never noticed that
making any difference.

Cheers, Phil.
