I have used swap over degraded RAID where part of the RAID was situated
atop an NBD (in extremis, while waiting for a replacement disk, after a
double drive failure on a RAID-5 array: the latter failure was slow
enough that I could rescue the data into an NBDed disk image). Does that
count?

(I started making proper backups after that.)
