NB, ThinkPads have many different hardware configurations possible,
for the same basic model name. The thinkpad wiki is generally the
best place to go to find out about Linux support / potential problems
with specific hardware configurations
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Hardware_Specifications
eg, my work laptop is a t500 currently for which works very nicely,
but notice how many choices there are for things like wifi / video
configs
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:T500
Mine has an Intel 5100 wifi NIC which has long worked well with Linux
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Intel_Wifi_Link_5100_%28AGN%29
The other NIC choice for the t500 though is not so Linux friendly:
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/ThinkPad_11b/g/n_Wireless_LAN_Mini-PCI_Express_Adapter_II
In summary, the ThinkPad platform is broadly very friendly to Linux,
but make sure you check the precise hardware configuration on the
wiki before purchasing
Regards,
Daniel
