Yes, i would recommend using KVM instead of virtualbox.
KVM comes included in all linux kernels, virtualbox is an oracle addon.
Just be mindful that sound and graphics tend to not work so well in guests,
so do your main desktop type stuff in the host.
Also be prepared to do a bit of work to get time accurate in the guest.
