I tried ping -b 192.168.1.255 and tcpdumped to see for anything
useful... nothing.

I've tried pinging every IP in 192.168.1.0/24 with no avail.

Yes.

This is slowly becoming the plan.

Followed, shortly, by a blog post on exactly how to do it, so the next
poor person who tries has a clue.
