It's much better than it used to be, although still a bit flaky.

It's available only as a 32 bit executable, so if you're running 64 bit 
Linux you need to make sure you have the 32 bit support libraries in place.

In the case of the Debian package, it doesn't have its dependencies set 
up quite correctly and you need to install one more package to get it to 
work right.  See https://wiki.debian.org/skype for full installation
