Assuming that by 'general domestic use' you mean evening/weekend 30 odd 
power on hours a week, we don't know of any particular ones to avoid at 
the moment.

There's not a lot of choice of manufacturer out there nowadays. We sell 
(not an offer!) Seagate and WD for most purposes and they fail, fairly 
predictably, but I tend to use Samsung for myself (ditto re failures, 
but not recently).

There's a new range of NAS 24/7/365 drives that we are testing that may 
be of interest for bigger duty cycles. Too soon to say if reliable.

Do note that most green drives have not worked out that well in our 
experience.
