There aren't any major issues these days. Just buy branded ones and you
should be fine. I generally buy Western Digital because they're
available at good prices, but Samsung and most of the others are fine.
The only ones I've had reliability issues with are Maxtor and Fujitsu
(which are probably the same thing these days!). I had a series of
Maxtor drives that didn't survive their warranty period - after the
third or fourth failure, I asked for (and received) my money back. It
didn't seem to be related to particular batch or size of drive - all of
them developed mechanical problems and all of them failed. Fortunately
they were used in RAID arrays, so the data was retrieved, and all the
drives were then replaced!
