[GLLUG] Help for a newbie. Installing Ubuntu

I had an issue with a new-(ish) Asus Ultrabook that when Windows says
"Shutdown" it didn't actually shutdown, it actually went in to a suspend
like state where it is able to boot extremely quickly. A search calls this
"hybrid-boot" and can be over-come by running in the command prompt:

shutdown /f /s /t 0

Which I guess is how I fixed it for myself (it was a while ago now).

Hopefully another piece to the puzzle.
