Does your BIOS allow you to specify a sequence of drives from which to
attempt to boot? If so, is it feasible to specify the Linux drive
first, followed by the Windows drive.
That way, if the Linux drive is in the machine, you boot Grub which lets
you choose which one you want, whilst if it is missing you boot directly
from the Windows drive.
