Thanks for the reply,
My ISP is plusnet, and mail sent to my plusnet address is collected direct 
from plusnet. Mail to my domain registered through mythic-beasts.com is 
received as SMTP by my mail gateway in a shorewall DMZ and forwarded to a 
hubbed host mail server in my main network. It is the mail server that is 
reporting that names listed in /etc/aliases are unroutable. Both are running 
exim4-daemon-heavy and spamassassin, and I have been using a similar setup for 
many years.
