I for one (at least) don't mind the chat in among everything else.  It
keeps it all nice and friendly.  I've seen hardly any personal,
one-to-one stuff that might better have been in personal email.  I
believe the comment at the meeting was addressed at that kind of chat
though I can't remember who said it.  A news group might work but I
guess we wouldn't know how many non-posters we had.  It would also be
more difficuly to keep out the spamming scum.
