Seasons Greetings to one and all...

Just a note of congratulations for the success of the presentation to =
Hereford Computer Club as detailed in a report in the Hereford Times =
dated 24th December 2002 as follows:

"Hereford Computer Club

Since there will be no December meeting the Hereford Computer Club =
socialised over festive fare at their meeting on November 20.

This was as a prelude to a talk on the Linux Operating System given by =
members of the Linux Users Group from Gloucester - something that many =
members had been keenly anticipating as was evidenced from the excellent =
attendance including some newcomers.

Most members had at least heard of Linux and a few had some, limited, =
experience of running their hardware on the Linux Systems.

The excellent presentation gave everybody a much better idea of the =
current state of play between Linux and its gret rival, the market =
dominating Microsoft.

It seems that where Linux is making headway is in business systems, in =
particular large networks, where cost advantages can be very =
significant, it has yet to gain more than 2 or 3% of the home market.

Although Linux is claimed to be cheaper and better it does have =
weaknesses, which are being addressed.

After quite a lengthy period of questions and discussion the chairman, =
Colin Hunt thanked the speakers for a very stimulating and informative =
presentation.

For details of the club contact Penny on 01432 343774 - =
paw@pennywick.demon.co.uk or Graham on 01885 482277 - =
graham@g-perkins.freeserve.co.uk "=20

*****************************************************************

Well done to all who contributed - clearly your efforts were definitely =
appreciated!

Regards to everyone and I hope you all have an excellent 2003!

Barrie Haycock
