Software Engineer

Department: Development

PURPOSE:=20

To develop high quality, innovative software products and services for =
the group from specifications and requirements defined by the Chief =
Technical Officer or Chief Architect


DIMENSIONS:=20

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Analysing functional specifications received to ensure completeness, =
validity and feasibility, and feeding back any anomalies to the author =
as appropriate

2. Producing design specifications as required from the functional =
specification, identifying all sub tasks, estimating their duration and =
feeding back to the Chief Architect or Project Manager

3. Validating the project plan received and highlighting any anomalies =
to the Project Manager

4. Completing all sub tasks as defined and prioritised in the project =
plan, ensuring that all code is written, tested and integrated with the =
rest of the project code base and the version control system, and =
updating the Project Manager on a regular basis

5. Ensuring a comprehensive handover to the System Test Engineers, =
giving instruction on installation and recommendations about environment =
and approaches

6. Investigating bug reports, implementing and testing all bug fixes and =
re-releasing the fixed software to System Test Engineers with =
recommendations for the scope of re-testing

7. Writing, monitoring and revising all database installation, =
configuration and support documentation and ensuring that this is up to =
date at all times

8. Providing post release support in all instances and training in =
certain circumstances to internal customers and occasionally liaising =
directly with external customers

PROFILE OF JOB HOLDER:

Essential

=B7 Educated to at least Degree level in a computing related subject=20
OR
=B7 At least two years experience in an IT role with programming =
experience
=B7 Minimum one years' experience in one or more of the following =
programming languages: C, C++, Perl, VB, VBScript, Javascript
=B7 Working knowledge of writing software on one or more of the =
following operating systems: Windows NT, Linux or Unix
=20

Desirable

=B7 Knowledge of IIS, ASP, HTTP, HTML, XML web technologies
=B7 Experience of NT and / or Linux administration
=B7 Working knowledge of internet protocols such as TCP/IP, SMTP and POP
=B7 Knowledge of email systems, particularly MIME and RFC882
=B7 Experience of SQL in particular Microsoft SQL Server
=B7 Knowledge of anti-virus techniques
