Yes. Heres what I have (from Debian Unstable):

[n6tadam at station tmp]$ type gv
gv is hashed (/usr/bin/X11/gv)

[n6tadam at station tmp]$ hash -r
[n6tadam at station tmp]$ type gv
gv is /usr/bin/X11/gv

[n6tadam at station tmp]$ ls -l /usr/bin/X11/gv
-rwxr-xr-x  1 root root 263800 Sep  1 04:42 /usr/bin/X11/gv

[n6tadam at station tmp]$ ls -l /usr/bin/gv
ls: /usr/bin/gv: No such file or directory

No need for that. I suggest that the installation is off.
