Hi
Might I sugest that you buy the book, Point and Click Linux, this comes 
with  Mepis 200.04 ( based on Debian but simper for a newby like me to 
use) and a DVD instuction video, I think you find every thing you need 
in the way of aplications, and it very easy to update.
