Mick,

Dexpot is a good app for virtual desktops in windows! You can set a 
couple of different types of deskop
pagers and can also view all of your desktops with the screen split 
4-ways and just click on the one you want!

BTW Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V works in Linux too. OpenOffice uses those 
shortcuts and quite possibley (I've never
tested it) KOffice and Abiword.... Oh and KDE and Gnome 8-)
