Hello All, hello Steve,
It is great that we have such a good discussion about the project.
Yes, I think we should have at least a day. We are all busy people
with families, jobs etc. and to get such a project started and making
a success would more than great. Only some hours would be too less to
justify the work we have. So a day is a good thing.
Steve, it is great to hear you have contacted the Linux Format people.
This is a good chance to get support in both ideas and perhaps in
getting a little bit money...
I think we should ask them in the first place whether they know a
computer event we could join. I personally would be fine if I have to
drive to a event a little bit eg. to Birmingham, Bristol, Oxford,
Cardiff. I don't know how the others here think about this. But
probably it is realistic that we will not have a good event here close
to Gloucester.
The next thing, the computer event we join should have the sort of
visitors we mentioned earlier (average users) and the topics where
Linux can make its points eg. computer safety like viruses, trojans or
its stability, economy, costs(!) as it is cheap/free or runs on
older hardware etc.
I don't know whether we can find a computer event like this here.
The next VERY important point in my eyes is: Can we take part there as
a volunteer group, means is there space for us non commercials and if
yes, can we effort to have a place there for a day. Linux Format could
help us there really really much.
Looking forward to hear your ideas.
Best regards
Christian
