Tue 14 Aug 2007 10:30am
BBC Television Centre, Wood Lane, London W12 7RJ
This is a protest against the BBC's decision to only allow Microsoft
Windows users to use their new video-on-demand service. Although a Mac
version is supposedly planned for some unspecified point in the future,
no Linux version is planned and the player will use proprietary closed
formats defined by Microsoft.
Is anyone else considering taking the day off and going up to protest? I
am thinking of doing so, but need someone to split the petrol & parking
costs with, in order to justify it. I'm happy to drive my car, also
happy to get a lift with someone else if they prefer to drive theirs.
Petrol will be about GBP25, parking about GBP4.
Schedule would be something like:
07:00am Depart Cheltenham -> A417 -> Cirencester Bypass -> A419 -> M4
09:45am Arrive Ealing Broadway shopping centre car park
Cross road to Ealing Broadway tube station, central line
10:15am Arrive White City tube station, central line
Cross road to BBC Television Centre
Then leave London after 2pm to ensure back at MessageLabs for monthly
meeting at 6pm. Finally, put photo slideshow on the big screen!
