Also I mentioned about getting rid of the irritating auto hiding button 
bar in VMplayer 1.x add the following to your vmx file:

gui.fullScreenAtPowerOn = "TRUE"

Be aware that once you escape the full screen mode by pressing ALT+CTRL 
then the button bar does come back again...
