Hi I have been doing some work with smarty(a php templating engine) and
pear db_objects and would be happy on making some notes/slides on its
uses and how it can be used to build a simple web application. If you
guys were thinking of holding such an event to do with php training I
think it would be cool to advertise it in some free publications to let
people know. I also would not mind doing some tutorials on basic php
functions. I have a server running Ubuntu that could be used in order to
do the tutorials on if people SSH on.

All,

Guy Edwards (remember him?) emailed to say he still has the GLUG CD
duplicator (a gift to the GLUG).

'Monster' was one term used to describe it but here's the rest of the
info.

"It's a disk duplicator with 1x 12 speed cdrom drive for reading a cdrom
and 4x 4 speed cd writers. I've replaced the power supply once about a
year and a half back and it worked for a while but the machine seems to
have errors again."

Basically, it's destined for the bin unless someone wishes to take it
on. Anyone wish to? If so, email me NOW.

If some less benevolent fellow wishes to take it on solely for their own
purposes then email me too and if there's no GLUG minded taker I guess
you can have it.

I've said to Guy I'll let him know in 24 hrs time.

Nicholas,

I've been meaning to reply to this for a long time.

I think a day of php training would be excellent. I'd certainly attend.
The LUG has never attempted such things though. Any suggestion on how
such a thing could work? I guess it would have to be on a weekend for a
start. I think the speaker/teacher would have to be paid (I'm assuming a

LUG member would be teacher here) as there is a lot of effort required
to put together a 1 day 'course'. Say X amount per attendee.

Any other members think it could be a goer? Anyone up for creating a
'course' (php or otherwise)?
