The one I use most often is an Athlon 64 3200+ (2GHz) with 1GB RAM.
It's a 64 bit processor, but it's running a 32 bit OS (Arch Linux +
Enlightenment WM) and the 32 bit version of VMWare. At work I have a
2.8 GHz Pentium Dual Core with 2GB RAM.
I've also used VMWare fairly extensively on a 700MHz laptop with 384MB
RAM (with less allocated to the virtual machine obviously). It's not
as responsive as on the more modern computers, but it's still usable
for drawing diagrams and suchlike in CorelDRAW. When I was using the
laptop, I tried a few other variations such as Parallels and (k)qemu,
but found that they were nowhere near as fast or polished as vmware.
Of course, that might have changed in more recent times.
Hope that helps,
Al
