Are you using Maildir or mbox files? The former have one file per mail,
the latter one file per folder. It's likely that Maildir files are held
somewhere like ~/Maildir and mbox files are held in ~/Mail (but neither is
fixed in stone). You need to backup either ~/Maildir or ~/Mail as
appropriate. Note that if you have Maildir files, the folders are
directories with hidden names (they start with a dot).
