You can mount the SD card under Linux and read/write from/to it. I've not
needed to use the TomTom desktop at all - you can download software
upgrades, etc, as they become available from the TomTom site, and you can
download lots of 'points of interest' from
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=POIs. You can also download
the locations of speed cameras and traffic light cameras, etc, from that
site although they are now subscription based. A nice touch is that if
you're the first to report a new speed^H^H^H^H^Hsafety camera then you get
a lifetime subscription for free.
Is there something you think you need the TomTom desktop for?
