I recently came across a piece by Steven Rosenberg called "Hitting the 
Debian Lenny sweet spot."
Cutting his story short. it appears that  there were differences  
between USB ports affecting  sound modules.
Specifically,  between a powered USB hub,  and the built-in USB ports on 
his laptop.

I have found a similar peculiarity affecting WiFi  USB "Dongles".  I 
read about a WiFi application that had to run from a PCI built-in wireless
card,  and NOT  using a Dongle via USB.

I had hoped to rely on external USB hubs,  but maybe I should be 
installing another  multiport USB  card instead!

Is this thread  misconceived, or is there any truth in it ?
