Dear Keith.

Thank you for your reply.  I have discussed this with Lynda, and that is what she does at present.   

She refers to another  method whereby you put the mouse at the top of the column, and run down the column to the point where you want to place the sum - and then you click.  This writes the sum of
entries into the chosen place.   
She says that she has seen EXCEL users do this,  and would like something similar on Libre Office Calc.

I hope I have passed this on accurately !

Referring to your slogan about helping people,  you would certainly approve of what "Onside" do for disadvantaged folk.
