[Herefordshire] Laptop advice

A friend of mine has one of these
http://global.acer.com/products/notebook/as1710.htm it's quite a
beast, and it really keeps him fit carrying it up the stairs every
day. It has a ps/2 port for a mouse and from the size of it it might
even take a full size hard disk, the main complaints my friend has is
the squashed up keyboard (they put the numpad on it as well) and the
button at the front have turn the thing on in his bag before. Takes a
proper usb keyboard. Unfortunately hard disk is 120 gb, why 40?
