    Many apologies for a second posting but thought it would help the
archive to put another query up under a separate heading.

Rember I was trying to install pciutils (which is missing) to run scanModem.
Got as far as unpacking pciutils-2.1.10.tar.bz2, checking contents and
access privileges and tried to install.

Both [root at localhost pciutils-2.1.10]# make install AND [root at localhost
pciutils-2.1.10]# make PREFIX=/usr &&
> make PREFIX=/usr install gave the following output:

make -C lib all
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/chris/manuals/modems/pciutils-2.1.10/lib'
cc -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer -Wall -W -Wno-parentheses -Wstrict-prototypes
-c -o access.o access.c
make[1]: cc: Command not found
make[1]: *** [access.o] Error 127
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/chris/manuals/modems/pciutils-2.1.10/lib'
make: *** [lib] Error 2.

You thought line 4 indicated a compiler was missing in relation to the
kernel running. uname -r shows the kernel to be 2.6.3-4mdk and
System>Config>Packaging>Install software shows gcc-3.3.2-6mdk,
gcc-c++-3.3.2-6mdk, gcc-g77-3.3.2-6mdk , glibc-devel-2.3.3-10mdk and
kernel-source-2.6.3-4mdk to be available for installation. Which of these is
the right one to install for me to get to the next step in my painful self
inflicted learning exercise?

All the best

Chris O
