[Herefordshire] Apache Versions

Good evening all
I've just spent some considerable time installing Apache 2.0.52 by following
the instructions on www.developerside.net. It all seemed to go through OK,
but when I type httpd -v I'm told it's still running 2.0.49! I've set my
doc_root to /usr/local/apache2/htdocs, but of course 2.0.49 still treats
/var/www/html as the doc_root, so if I create a test file in
/usr/local/apache2/htdocs and point my browser to localhost it doesn't find
it.
Any ideas?
Gary

Fedora is a very good distro to start using.
I found it easy to install & setup but I like Peter had issues installing
other software.
I found that KDE was the nicer interface/desktop to use in regards to the
media player "Kaffiene Player" is a good one that I use. You Will also need
the latest version of xine
http://kaffeine.sourceforge.net/ this has links for downloading the files &
what extra files you need. It took me a week to work out how to get it to
play videos so don't just install them/compile them & if it doesn't work
give up. The satisfaction you get when it does work is greeeeat...
As you will know DVDs are encrypted using macro vision encryption legally
there is one player that you can buy Power DVD for Linux which has
encryption but if you look at that website It will tell you to download a
plug-in to run DVDs.
I hope this helps.
Oh hello all sorry missed the last meeting I had a really bad day at work &
I needed to get some gaming time in.
I am hoping I will get to the next one as I would like to make some
suggestions on driving people to the website. Something I have found I am
not the only person who has problems with installing VNC Apache PHP. These
are all things that people have done a search on & found my site. I get
around 20 hits on my Linux page a week. As allot of people are looking for
the fix. :)
If anyone is interested I have
http://www.kungfu.dyndns.org/Red_Hat_The_Complete_Reference_Enterprise_Linux
_and_Fedora_Edition.zip a good read if you like reading manuals on your pc.
I will hopefully see you all at the next meeting..
All the best

http://freshrpms.net/ is an excellent source of packages (including DVD
player and mp3 decoders).
Simply use the following command (as root):
# rpm -ivh \
http://ftp.freshrpms.net/pub/freshrpms/fedora/linux/1/yum/yum-2.0.7-2.fc.fr.
noarch.rpm
Then:
# yum -y update
And your Fedora installation will be up-to speed in no time! Just make
sure you don't do it over dial-up, it'll take hours.
However Core 1 has officially been declared as legacy now, you'd be
better starting with Core 2 or Core 3 (C3 is out on 8th Nov).
Thanks
Mark
