Hi,

On your Samba request - any new distro will include new Samba modules -
use apt-get samba.  You may also wish to check out SWAT - the Samba Web
Admin tool, which will manage all aspects of /etc/smb.conf for you (i.e,
create/modify share/permissions, and services provided by Samba).  Samba
3 has full AD support, though I am still running on v2.  A few packages
I have seen come with SWAT built in.  There are also good SAMBA packages
for Webmin, and if I were you I would investigate using that server for
stuff other than file sharing - it could, for example, be a simple mail
server or webserver.

If this is the infamous 'blue squid', then I agree! I DID get it to work
with RedHat 2 or 3 years ago, but it was HELL. Can't help with IPCop
either.

On another note, a friend of mine wants a Linux distro to use as a
simpleish Samba server (with a pretty average heap of hardware eg P750).
Does anyone have any suggestions ?

I remember having a hell of a time getting that up and running with a
mandrake box a few years back :(
