Subject: [Herefordshire] Hello all
Hi,
Seeing as my name (misspelled but if you cant have
fame under your own name a different one will do!)
has gone up on the members list I probably ought to
introduce myself.
I have been using Linux since the last century (my
slashdot id is just over 30000, ah back in the good
ol' days, trolls had respect for their elders in them
days...) so probably count as an experienced user. I
started with unix writing shell scripts on Digitial
Unix machines, enjoyed it so much I got Redhat 5.0 on
a PCPlus cover disc and an old 486 and have never
looked back. I currently use SuSE at work and a
combination of OSX, OpenBSD, and Slackware at home,
and am proud to say I've never run windows on a
machine I owned.
As you can tell I'm not really an open source/Linux
fanatic, though I did see Richard Stallman speak once,
well worth it if you get a chance its a thought
provoking experience.
Employment wise I work for a company that sells Linux
and Windows high availability clustering software
which means I get to play with some expensive linux
based toys (quad processor PowerPC boxes and a 42
Terabyte disk array fronted by a pair os quad AMD64
NFS servers are the highlights to date) but have not
yet managed to escape the windows world entirely.
I have to confess I actually live in Birmingham and
have no relation to Herefordshire at all (well I grew
up in hereford and worcester but in the worcestershire
bit), but I reckon you cant be a member off to many
lugs, travel broadens the mind they say. Wolverhampton
LUG are currently having a conversation about
gardening, cucumbers, allotments and the like...
chris
