[Herefordshire] Best supported DVD Writer formats ?

Hi

Can anyone suggest what is the best way to go when buying a DVD Writer 
for a Linux PC ? Should it be DVD +R/RW or DVD -R/RW ? I've discounted 
DVD-RAM.
And does Linux support the 'multi' recorders that appear to be able to 
handle both formats ?

Also which format is easiest to get working under Linux. I would be 
using Redhat 9, Possibly Fedora Core 1 and Mandrake 9.2 for this.
