Hi everyone
Have been trying to overcome the intermittent failure to access my
hard-drive at boot which we discussed at the last meeting by using the
Ubuntu Live CD to run Open Office in the hope of saving session data to
floppy. All goes very well (and very good Ubuntu seems to be), I can play in
the Spreadsheet module, write macros fine and save them to the home/warty
directory but of course they are not there on a re-boot as expected so why
not save the data to floppy methinks.
This I just cannot do despite '/floppy' appearing as an optional file
destination. An error message is returned to the effect "Error saving the
document filename.sxc: /floppy/filename.sxc does not exist" and the floppy
drive does not attempt to spin.
Is this a limitation of Live Distros in general or of the Ubuntu one in
particular or have I missed a vital trick. Have tried assigning chmod 777
status to the file and copying from the Command Line, in fact everything I
can think of (which is not much) but to no avail.
Any help enormously welcome
