hello all,
the latest news in my search for open source games....
nexuiz -
i downloaded the latest version of nexuiz (1.2.1), but it was too big
to fit on my puny usb key. instead i downloaded the 1.1 to 1.2.1 patch
and applied it to a copy of nexuiz 1.1 that i got from a dvd. it
worked the first time i ran it, but it was an ugly crude piece of
work. the second and third time it ran it just had a black screen with
no graphics. i had to control-alt-f1 to open up a terminal and then
use top and kill to get rid of it. not impressed.
quake2-
this is available as a debian package (
http://packages.debian.org/cgi-bin/search_packages.pl?keywords=quake2&searchon=names&subword=1&version=all&release=all
) but it doesn't come with the data files for all the graphical stuff
because that wasn't released under the gpl when the engine was. i may
have found a solution. there is a project called tenebrae (
http://tenebrae.sourceforge.net/ ) which seems to have made there own
data file. i'll have a play with it and report back.
john.
