Hi Chris, My email to the lug  is having problems, so I hope you don't 
mind me emailing your directly

I have a few users setup on talktalk's free broadband. the 1 and 2 mb 
lines and to be honest they are just plain SLOW 35-55kps on the 1mb and 
65-150kps on the 2 mb lines, for free sure they are good value for 
money, but if you want a good connection I could not recommend them.

also with a router they will work on Linux, Mac OSX, Unix etc without 
problems, and be a lot quicker than dial-up, I hope this helps, feel 
free to post this to the lug maillist.
