[HLUG] samba (not)printing

Hi Mark,

I have made progress at last; I printed from the WinXP today via samba
as root.

I think samba version 3 is able to create a printer definition on the
fly from what printers are available and the [printers] section in
smb.conf, rather than requiring to use a printcap name = <file>.

The breakthrough was finding that the path for the samba log files was
invalid. Then I was able to address the errors in the log files.

Do you know where Linux names a machine, as Samba picks this up to use
as netbios name? After lightning caused my desktop to crash and i
rebooted everything, it reverted to a name of localhost. I then had to
change smb.conf to contain netbios name = evesham to get access back for
the file shares.

Regards

Gordon.
