Just to update everyone I have now found the location of the log file that
holds the logon appemts to my machine. because im using suse I was looking
through yast and found View System log. I had a look at this & found that
someone has been trying to log on using various logon names:

I have now set my firewall to only allow ssh during scheduled times.
Thanks for everyones help... My other issue with Apache has now been fixed. I
need to start looking at the config files rather than using webmin or Yast..
