[HLUG] GPG vs PGP?

Hello,

Does anyone have an opinion on GPG (Gnu Privacy Guard) being any more or 
less secure or useable than PGP (Pretty Good Privacy)?

Having  tried to obtain PGP for a WinXP user, it seems that any free 
versions that were once available for download have now been cleansed 
from the web. Recalling GPG as a likely alternative, it seems that this 
is available for plenty of platforms but needs compiling first. (Ah 
well, a small price to pay.)

Any experiences of this app. will be gratefully received.
