‘Economic calculations ignore the value of fresh water and green forests’
Further to
http://www.globalideasbank.org/site/bank/idea.php?ideaId=3257, how about
those of us involved in corporate/financial IT putting this idea into
practice? Almost without exception, spreadsheets and accounting systems
are optimised to maximise profits, generally at the expense of the
well-being and sustainability of people and planet.
Gross National Happiness is basically another column in a spreadsheet
that measures how happy people may be under certain circumstances. If
this were treated as seriously as shareholder returns, I wonder how
different the world could be?
