[HLUG] disappearing icons in file browser

Occasionally I find the file browser on my Fedora Core 3 system behaving
strangely and wonder if anyone has similar experiences. 

I am working away opening and closing files quite happily in various
directories by selecting then right mousing to choose eg open with Text
Editor and then when I right mouse a file the icon just disappears. If I
move up and down a directory, the file is there again but the same
continues to happen. I can select then use the File->Open with Text
Editor and this works. If I do a reboot the problem goes away until the
next time.

I found a mention of disappearing icons in nautilus back in 2001 but
nothing else that seems relevant.
