I've just done two installs with the KDE4 version of the
alternate Hardy CD. It offers you a chance to resize
and use the freed-up space, but as I chose manual resize
in one case, and use whole disk in t'other, I can't tell
you how well it works.
In other releases Ubuntu resizing of partitions has been
reported to work well - but full back-ups are always
advised for these operations, for obvious reasons :^)
