Hi Graham

I've had a look at some of the webpages describing the Herefordshire
CAPS. Preston is one that stands out as its says :-

'Laptops, Projector & screen available for hire to community groups.'

So its sounds promising. Hopefully we can borrow their hall too !

I suppose one of the main issues is whether these CAPS are available in
the evening. We don't have any specific date/day in the month, so are
flexible. I am waiting on booking the Day Centre this month, in case we
can get setup somewhere for our Sept meeting at a CAP instead.

If you could do some initial digging around at Preston/South Wye (or
others) it would be appreciated. I think they are quite central so worth
contacting if you would be so good to do this for us.

I think it looks like HIT (Herefordshire in Touch) funded and setup
these CAPS, for a project that ended in Late 2007. The idea is that the
CAPS will now be run by volunteers and a steering committee at each
location (Village Halls etc), so I guess the CAPS can, and will be quite
variable in how they would react to us, in terms of manpower,
facilities, etc

There are actually quite a few in the middle of the county, ie Burghill,
South Wye, Canon Pyon, Mansel Lacy, Bodenham. The only down side to
going to a CAP, as far as I see it, is that it may be less accessible
for some LUG members who don't have a car, but i think most do anyway.

The beauty of going to the CAPS, is that we have people manning these
places that will have an interest in IT too, and we can also put on
talks on Linux and leave Linux CD's perhaps, so we're much more in the
realms of the part of society we are reaching out too.
