Hi there,

I'm afraid, I had a german beginners book, which didn't help me too much
anyway, I can't be too much of a help.
I actually learned most of my (basic) linux knowledge via internet.

But there's one book I can definitely recommend as a good reference book
is Linux in a nutshell, O'Reilly publishing. It's got real good overview
over the most common commands (essentially the man pages), info about
bootloaders (grub, lilo & loadlin), a bit about bash, csh, tcs, emacs,
vi, vim, sed, gawk and a bit about KDE, GNOME and fvwm2 as well as
RedHat and Debian package managers (talking about the 4th edition).
